To whom it may concern:
This blog post is about our origins and how we got to where we are now.
I started graphic designing in late 2015 under a different label. Just me, producing stickers, tapestries, car accessories, and small batches of clothing for about four years. At the time, it felt like I had rediscovered a childhood love for animation. The shows and movies I watched were like pieces of art. They captivated me for hours, days, weeks at a time. I felt like the media I loved could be translated into something tangible for others who shared that feeling.
In early December of 2020, ANGELtype was born. A reformatted version of my previous brand, same backend, new direction. We switched from stickers and tapestries to anime-inspired clothing and began our first steps into cut and sew, alongside a dedicated section of entirely USA-made items.
From 2016 to 2020 I was deep into anime. From 2021 onward, that interest slowly gave way to something else: self expression through silhouettes, materials, and fit. Less screen time, more time thinking about what clothing could feel like and mean to the person wearing it.
In February of 2023 we introduced (A)LINE, a more technical subdivision of ANGELtype. (A)LINE pieces were designed as standalone garments with no anime representation, and they started to feel more true to where we were actually headed.
One year later, in February of 2024, we committed fully. No more anime-inspired items. We posted a statement, discontinued the pieces, and pushed forward.
We'd still like to revisit anime-inspired clothing someday, with proper licensing and direct arrangements with creators. Done right, with the resources to do it well. Not soon, but not never.
For now, the focus is on considered clothing, fine jewelry, and limited accessories made with a lot of care. We hope you'll stay with us for it.
