Why Our Clothing Has Changed
You may be wondering why most of our recent designs have been black—and maybe why we’ve stepped away from anime-inspired pieces altogether. I wanted to share a bit more about both.
On Anime-Inspired Designs
There are countless reasons we’ve moved away from anime-inspired clothing, but the core of it comes down to authenticity. While the support we received during that chapter of the brand was incredible—introducing us to so many amazing people—I’ve come to feel like it wasn’t fully genuine to who I am anymore.
I don’t watch anime or read manga these days. I loved it in my teens, but as I’ve grown, my interests have shifted. Now, I’m more inspired by silhouettes, materials, branding, and the art of garment construction. I want to leave a mark on clothing in a way that feels dignified, personal, and creatively fulfilling. To be honest, producing graphic tees and printed knitwear on blanks never felt like a sustainable path for my career or my artistic voice.
There’s also a very practical side to it. Our designs have been widely copied—by fast fashion giants like Tmu and Alexpress, among other anime-inspired brands. It’s hard to stay inspired when your work is so easily reproduced, especially when you’re no longer personally connected to the subject matter.
On Wearing (and Designing) Black
You’ve probably noticed the shift toward all-black garments. That choice has a deeper meaning for me.
I’ve been in mourning for nearly two years now, and it’s shown both in my personal wardrobe and how I approach design. My own closet has become darker, quieter—less filled with graphic tees and denim—and naturally, my brand began to reflect that change.
To be more direct, I lost my mom in October 2022. It was, without a doubt, one of the most profoundly painful experiences of my life. I think about her every day. I wish I could have shared more of my work and life with her, but we didn’t communicate much.
If there’s one thing I can leave you with, it’s this: You never know how long you have with the people you love.
Be kind. Be forgiving. Be the bigger person when it’s needed. Be empathetic, open, and communicative. Keep the door open for healthy relationships with those around you—especially family.
I genuinely have so much love for all of you who continue to support and connect with what I create. Thank you for reading and for being here.
